Reaching 18 million international visitors to Vietnam in 2019 is a challenge
Aug 19, 2019
The 18 millions passengers is a humble figure. However, in the current situation, the acquisition of this targeted amount of international passenger to visit Vietnam in 2019 is such a challenge for tourism.
The Minister of Ministry of Culture – Sports & Tourism – Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien implied the above statement at the Conference “Increasing attraction towards international tourists to visit Vietnam” hosted by Administration of Tourism in Danang, August 16th.
The growth rate of international tourists visiting Vietnam show signs of deceleration:
Making statement at the opening of the Conference, Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien implied that in term of destination, the amount of 18 million tourists was just a humble figure. For example, Taiwan had 40 million international tourists, thus 17-18 million passengers was incomparable.
However, based on the approximately 10 million international tourists to visit Vietnam in the first 7 months, to reach target achievement of this year (18 million tourists) in the remaining 5 months is a challenge. We can only hope for the annual high peak months to welcome international tourists from September, October.
During the Conference, Vice Administrator of Administration of Tourism – Mr. Ha Van Sieu – informed that within the first 7 months of 2019, Vietnam had welcomed nearly 10 million of international tourists, which was alomost 8% increased in comparison with the same period in 2018.
In the same period of first 7 months, the growth rate of 2018 was over 25% as of 2017. Data examinations showed that 2 main tourist sources – Korea and China – is decreasing and stalling. In specefic, the amount of Chinese tourists to Vietnam not only did not increase but also decrease up to 28% in the same period of the previous year. Korean tourists increased by 22% (50% in the previous year).
The reason of this was the general tourism trend. Chinese tourists to Thailand, USA, Australia and other destinations were also in the declining situation
This challenge is also the opportunity to increase international tourist attraction stably
Other opinions at this Conference shared mutual believe that declining growth rate of international tourists was a challenge for Vietnam to reach its target, however it was also a huge chance for tourism to strive for effective solutions in order to escalate international tourist attracttion firmly in the long term.
According to Minister Nguyen Ngoc Thien, in the short term, it is necessary to discuss effective solutions to attract customers from the from China, Korea and Japan to achieve the goal of receiving 18 million foreign visitors. in 2019. Correcting the negative impacts of this type of tour 0 VND, but still retaining the increase in visitors in both quantity and quality.
At the same time, in the long term, there should be solutions to attract international visitors from the market of Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia ..) and beyond that the UK, the US, France and Australia to compensate. when the number of visitors from China and Korea is on a downward trend.
According to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, one of the opportunities for Vietnam to attract international visitors in the remaining 5 months, reaching the plan of 2019 is the exchange and exchange of tourism and economy, culture, society, sports between Vietnam and other countries in Northeast Asia, especially Japan, South Korea, Taiwan (China) and Southeast Asian countries contribute to improving the image and position of Vietnam. Many tourist destinations and products of Vietnam are becoming attractive and famous in the world.
In addition, major international events in Vietnam and promotion activities to promote Vietnam to other countries that have been and continue to be implemented in the coming time also contribute to attracting international visitors to Vietnam.
The conference introduced solutions to attract international visitors such as promoting destinations on the basis of promoting the overall public-private partnership; construction of tourism stimulus packages to introduce to markets; strengthening tourist exchanges with countries that are the source market of Vietnam tourism; cooperating with diplomatic, commercial, domestic and foreign organizations and individuals to promote the promotion of Vietnam tourism; ensuring order and security, environmental sanitation, civilized behavior at the base point
